King

This Monday we remember Martin Luther King, Jr.  I think MLK Day is one of the most important holidays we have in our country.  King was the greatest leader this country ever had.  He is the organic representation of our American democracy and the soul of our country.

It seems to me that the general public only has superficial knowledge of King.  Some may know he gave a “I Have a Dream” speech – but they know little else.  Over the past couple of years I’ve grown more and more interested in King.  In fact, I now place him among my personal heroes.  If you’d like to know more about King (and I sure hope you do!), here are some resources I suggest you check out.

Best book about King:

Bearing the Cross: Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference

Author: David Garrow

My favorite speeches/sermons King gave (click the title for the speech audio):

 A Knock at Midnight

Here King reveals what compelled him to act in spite of the danger surrounding him.

The Good Samaritan

Here King challenges each of us to be a good neighbor.
