This is a picture of the “Winhawk proud” sign displayed in my front yard. It symbolizes my support for our community. I believe that if I support my community, then I’m also helping make our country a better place. In fact, I think of my candidacy for school board in two ways: 1) it is a way I help my neighbors and 2) it is a way I help my country. Here’s what I mean:
- Are you concerned about the treatment of women in our country? Do you want to uplift them and empower them? My vision is that we make a concerted effort to empower and professionalize our teachers. Since nearly 76% of teachers are female, this is a natural way to uplift women.
- Are you concerned about the future of students identified with disabilities? Would you like to see our country to be more mature in how we include these individuals? My vision is that we make a concerted effort to help our general education teachers to better include students identified with disabilities into their classrooms. Inclusion in a classroom means inclusion in our society!
- Are you concerned about school safety in the wake of horrific waves of violence over the past year? My vision is that we make a concerted effort to prioritize school safety.
- Are you concerned about the increasing social and emotional needs of children? My vision is that we make a concerted effort to improve upon our district’s social services for students.
Do you feel helpless in the wake of all of the problems that inundate our country? I propose that the most practical way we can improve our country is by improving our community. The best means to do this is by improving our public school district! A proud Winhawk is a proud American!
